I'm new here and want to fish from shore for ulua or papio. Any good spots on Oahu or Big Island? What bait or gear do you use? What time is best? Please share tips.

On Oahu, I've had luck at Kaena Point, but you have to put in the time. Big Island, South Point is classic.

Most guys use heavy surf rods with 50–80 lb test and live bait like eels or big chunks of octopus. Best time is late evening into night.

Hit spots like Black Point or Kawaihae, use live oama or squid, toss heavy sinkers, and fish dawn, dusk, or night for best action

@King372 @Hitman01 Thanks, that gives me a good start. Do you guys usually fish solo at night for ulua, or go with a partner? Seems like landing a big one on the rocks could get sketchy alone.
Yeah, it is smarter with a partner at night. Ulua fight hard, and the rocks get slick fast. I've gone solo before, but backup makes landing safer and way less stressful
