Hey everyone, I'm curious to hear your thoughts on local gun shops. What makes a gun shop trustworthy for you? Maybe you've had some great experiences or unfortunately, some bad ones. Are there any shops in your area that you think are worth recommending?

I’d love to know about their selection, especially used guns if you found any gems. And how do their prices and transfer fees stack up? We all want to support the good shops out there! Let’s share our experiences and help each other find the best places to do business.

When it comes to local shops, I’ve had some pretty good luck with a couple of places on Oahu. Their selection of used guns can be a bit of a mixed bag depending on when you go, but I’ve stumbled upon some older revolvers and surplus rifles that really catch your eye. Sure, prices are usually steeper than what you’d find on the mainland, but that’s kind of expected considering the shipping and compliance costs involved.

On the big island, at least on the Hilo side, we ave Tokunaga's, Stuebs, and J. Hara's. Oddly, Stuebs sells no reloading components. There are zero gun smiths on this side of the island. There is one in Kona, but, he works in a limited basis I understand. Seems no-one wants to sell on consignment, or even take trades in. I was told to sell through Gunbroker, and that the local dealer would ship the gun to the buyer and do the paperwork. I was quoted $200 for that service. Nope. Have not Been to any gun stores in Kona. We really have just one place to legally target shoot. Mile marker 16 on Saddle Road. It is unattended, so you are on your own. Actually has two separate ranges connected via a short driveway. I go during the week, and simetimes am the only one there.
