What happens when you shoot a match with no stage plan and just go with instinct

I tried this once as an experiment and I was just reacting in the moment. I placed lower than usual but some of the stages felt surprisingly smooth and natural. It made me realize that instinct can work when it is built on good fundamentals. It is not something I would rely on but it was an interesting way to test my training.

Instinct works best when it’s trained otherwise it’s just organized chaos with occasional lucky hits

For short barrels, you really want the Speer Gold Dot 135 grain. It's made specifically for those two-inch tubes and expands super reliably. Regular magnums just give you a huge muzzle flash and don't perform well at all from a shorty.
